Dogeza Matsuri (festival)
The Funakawa-hachimangu Shrine autumn festival has a 300-year history. It features a Goshinko Buki Gyoretsu celebrating the procession held when the Niimi Domain’s first lord, Seki Nagaharu, took command of the territory. This procession has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
Parishioners of the shrine living along the road where the procession passes put out small mounds of sand to purify the route, and kneel to welcome the procession.
